Mommy and Me

May 17, 20253 min read

So today on Mother’s Day I wanted to do something a little different. I wrote a poem for My Mommy.

Your journey as a mom began with Roz in 1963, She arrived 1 month early and said hey come look at me.

She was small, she was tiny, she was a fighter at heart, but she came into this world to definitely make her mark!

How proud you must have been to see your daughter thrive and turn into a woman that makes your heart come alive.

From College to Wall Street to Columbia University too, she travelled the world, jumped out of planes, she had the tenacity of two.

You were told no more children, as your delivery was touch and go, but 7 years later God had a different plan that you didn’t know.

You thought you had the flu and went to the doctor to see, and they came back and said Mrs Vega you are no longer a party of 3.

With much surprise you couldn’t believe what you heard, but the next words out of the doctor's mouth hit you as absolutely absurd. Because of your past delivery we highly recommend, that you do not see this pregnancy up until the end.

An ultimatum you were given your life over mine, but you told the doctors this pregnancy was a gift from God the All Mighty Divine. You chose to ignore them, as your faith is really strong, and you knew in your heart that the experts were wrong.

I am thankful and blessed and humbled you see, I am here writing this 55 years later because you CHOSE ME.

You chose faith over fear, and trusted Gods decision, you had blind faith and unlimited vision.

For he planted a seed that the doctors said would never be, and it grew and grew and that seed became me.

So, thank you My Mommy for living your life with unshakable faith, you have shown us how to manage life with love and prayer but most of all with Grace.

When God started designing you just for us, he gave us a Super Mom, but then he added the Plus Plus! Because you are More than More of a Mom. You are a friend, a confidant, a cook, and a sounding board too. Because of all these things I always dreamed of being a Mom just like you. Unfortunately, those shoes are already filled by you, I needed to pave my own way and make my mark too.

You continue to amaze me how you go above and beyond each day. Even after Roz’s passing, which I know breaks your heart each and every day. But you push past the sorrow and the pain, and you step up your game as Super Mom again and again.

There will never be another Nana like you in this world, Jesse and Jake are lucky and blessed that you Nana are the best of the best.

So on this Mother’s Day I would like to say, it has been an honor and privilege to call you Mom and to hear my son call you Nana each and every day.

To be able to walk side by side with you in this thing called life. You are an amazing Mother but an even better wife. For better or worse, together or apart. Thank you for being the most caring, loving, unselfish, creative, funny, short, spunky, gracious, faithful, best cook and role model from the bottom of my heart.

Thank you for guiding me always, listening to me, giving me the best advice. There will never be enough Thank You’s and I LOVE YOU’s to express what you mean to me so deep in my soul even if I said everything twice.

Happy Mother’s Day to the Absolute Best Mommy and Nana in the World!

Bendiciones Siempre, Te Amo, Y Te Adoro.
